Extreme Makeover: Matteo Edition

Matteo hates haircuts. The first few he got were crying, wailing, flailing affairs that we dreaded repeating. Then we got into a little groove and he didn't mind so much. We took him to a kids' haircut place with a police motorcycle to sit on and a big screen TV playing Barney around the clock. So he tolerated them and we tipped generously.

And then that place closed. Steve took Matteo one day in the middle of the week and no one was there. So we took him to a little barbershop within walking distance of our house. He got two haircuts there, no problem. And then Steve took him a few weeks ago and it did not go well. At all. Apparently, he let the man cut the top and sides with the scissors but flipped out when he tried to clean up the sides and edges with the electric razor. Steve paid $18 for half a haircut and he was not happy about it.

So the back has been getting really shaggy and I was getting afraid that my adorable 3-year-old might end up with a mullet. We've been trying to convince him to let Steve clean it up but he still refused, no matter what we tried to bribe him with.

Today we decided it had to be done. It's been so hot and he's always sweaty. He woke up from his nap yesterday and asked me why his hair was all wet. So Steve got out the razor and the guards and pretended to cut Dario's hair and showed Matteo that it doesn't hurt. Then we promised him a Slurpee and he finally gave in. Here he is!
